VICTORIA AZARENKA vs JESSICA PEGULA – BETTING PREVIEW
WTA INDIAN WELLS
This pairing was scheduled to meet three times this year. However, Victoria Azarenka pulled out of Madrid, so just two meetings took place. The first of them was in the first round of the Australian Open, in which Jessica Pegula won (7/5 6/4). For the record, the US player went on to make the quarter-final of that tournament. On the grass courts in Berlin, Azarenka took revenge by winning their QF match (6/2 5/7 6/4).
The 32-year-old working mother (Azarenka) is 27/13 this year, and in the live ranking chart her going into this match is 30. The furthest she’s made it in any tournament is the semi-finals of Doha, and Berlin. In the first mentioned, she pulled out of her intended match against Garbine Muguruza. In fact, she’s done the same five times this season, thus suggesting she’s carrying or feigning injuries!
Azarenka won her three matches here against Magda Linette, Petra Kvitova, and Aliaksandra Sasnovich. All were completed in straight-sets, so the former number one (January 2013) shouldn’t be suffering fatigue. Nevertheless, the fact remains that Azarenka hasn’t won the 4th match at any tournament for 13 months!
Pegula is a late developer who is making up for the lost time. The 27-year-old won 41 matches this year, and her endeavours this week took her to a career-high of 20. On hard court, she is 30/11 and made the semi-finals of Doha and Montreal. During the current campaign, the billionaire’s daughter beat many of the big names. Moreover, she won all three matches here by dominating her opponents with power plays.
In summary, Pegula is in the form of her life, and she deserves to win a tournament like this. First thing first, let her get past Azarenka!!
