MIAMI OPEN: ANASTASIJA SEVASTOVA vs ELINA SVITOLINA
It was a great day at the office for WTA subscribers yesterday, and that was partly thanks to these two players. We are down to the last eight and very much looking forward to this match Miami Open: Anastasija Sevastova vs Elina Svitolina.
ANASTASIJA SEVASTOVA (Rank 47)
Anastasia Sevastova did what we expected her to do against last round opponent Ana Konjuh. Following two tough opening rounds against Olga Danilovic (6/1 3/6 7/6) and Cori Gauff (1/6 6/2 6/3), the 30 year old has enjoyed a relatively easy passage into the last 8. With that said, needing 1:42 to get through two-sets is a long time on court.
As we mentioned in yesterdays preview, Sevastova was advantaged by the long rallies. There was also 11 double faults from her opponent, and Konjuh could only take 4/14 break points. Fine lines separate winning and losing WTA matches, and Anastasija was simply better on the big points.
Todays match is totally different, and if anyone can test the resolve of Sevastova it’s got to be Elina Svitolina.
ELINA SVITOLINA (Rank 5)
Svitolina rewarded us with some nice odds against last round opponent Petra Kvitova. After being dominated in the first set (2/6) by her hard-hitting opponent, the 26 year old needed to dig-in for the longer journey into the last eight.
In the deciding set, Svitolina raced into a 3-0 lead, but she couldn’t close out. At 5/4 in the 3rd set she had two match points which she failed to take. Nevertheless, Svitolina is nothing if not resilient, and at 6/5 she went 0/40 up and following 2:25 and two points later she had qualified!
Prior to playing Kvitova, the Ukrainian beat Alexandrova in straight sets and came from a set down to beat Shelby Rogers in her first match.
Svitolina will need to get into the zone a lot quicker, but that shouldn’t be an issue against Sevastova. Afterall, she’s a similar type in that she will play from deep meaning the rallies will be longer. We are going to take the 4 year younger player in straight sets!
BET: ELINA SVITOLINA -1.5 sets
