Most punters believe losing to bookmakers is normal, and for the majority this is true. Disadvantageous betting odds is one obstacle for punters the other is self-inflicted mistakes. These are some common mistakes people make in betting…
However, it is not mandatory to play into the hands of the bookmaker, and we want to help iron out some of these issues;
EXPERT PUNDITS – COMMON MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE IN BETTING
Ex-football players are likely to understand the technical side of the game better than the average person, but that does not mean they are in a position to advise on value betting.
Professional gambling is about understanding the maths, making it hard to believe someone who dedicated his/her life to playing sport will be an expert in that subject!
We are not saying you shouldn’t listen to a former player talking about the game because you might learn something. However, like you would not go to a car mechanic for a cooking recipe, the same applies to a player talking about betting odds.
Let us make one thing clear bookmakers want your money. They are not your friend or family, nor do they deserve your loyalty.
The typical punter usually bets with just one or two bookmakers, and that means they are limiting themselves. To profit open multiple betting accounts, and shop around for the best price. Obtaining odds value is a must, and you can only do that by increasing choice.
Betting with a sportsbook is no different to shopping online. You will save money by searching for the best price. With regards to betting, you win more by getting higher odds.
If the odds are dropping and you have not already struck the bet, it might be best to abort the plan.
As a minimum, ask yourself why the odds are dropping. Maybe some team news came through, or weather conditions changed expectancy. The other reason could be the weight of money being bet is forcing the odds down.
Whatever the case, only bet if you are getting value.
Some people bet for fun, but that’s not what we are coaching here!
Hobby gamblers should do what they want, but serious gamblers are out to beat the system.
Prop bets have much higher bookmaker juice, and they are rarely betting value. Traditional bookmakers love these type of bets because they make much bigger profits from unexpecting punters.
If you insist on bet sides, at least do it on the betting exchanges and negotiate your position.
CASH-OUT IS A RIP-OFF
Would you return purchased merchandise to a shop and expect to be offered less than you paid? The answer is no because a full refund is standard.
Imagine you made a winning four-team football accumulator at odds 2.0 * 2.0 * 2.0 * 2.0, the total odds would be 16.0. If an additional fifth-team went on the ticket at odds of 2.0, it would pay 32.0. Ask yourself this, what would happen if you wanted to cash-out before the fifth-team played?
The bet would have paid 16.0 if the final selection was not on the betting slip. To cash-out now bookmakers would settle at around 11.0!
Generally speaking, Cash-out is very poor value has it pays you substantially less than your ticket is actually worth.
Stop the madness and find a new hobby if you are chasing losses!
Being addictive to betting is concerning because it will hurt your lifestyle. If you are a problem gambler get help and start by excluding yourself from betting websites.
If you are serious about winning at betting, make a plan and stick with it. Under no circumstances make more bets because you are losing!
We advise keeping betting funds separate from private finances. It will be easier to keep track of performance and give a better overview of your situation.
UNDERSTAND BOOKMAKER RULES
In betting forums, punters are often crying foul-play. Many of the complaints are based on bonus enticements with customers clearly not understanding rollover rules.
Before signing up to any betting platform, we implore you to read through terms & conditions. Pay particular attention to;
- Bonus terms
- Deposit/withdrawal charges
- Maximum winnings
- Know your customer procedure.
- Betting rules
- Territorial restrictions
BETTING FORUMS ARE FOR FUN ONLY
Whilst visiting betting forums can be fun, many of the comments are naive or silly. Do not get egged-on is our message, and do not believe everything you read.
Beware of braggers because successful punters do not hang around in forums. Watch for spam and people selling/promoting bullshit systems.
