WTA BETTING PREVIEW
ASHLEIGH BARTY vs BIANCA ANDREESCU
We have a problem believing these odds are representative of true chance. There is no head-to heads to consider, so we have to figure it out ourselves!
In beating Elina Svitolina 6/3 6/3, it is fair to say Ashleigh Barty had an easier route to the final. The 24 year old served 7 aces in that match, and she had her opponent on the back foot for most of the time (1:27). However, while the Ukrainian tried hard, we have to recognise it wasn’t her best performance. In fact, she looked a bit tired, and the world number one was never going to let her off the hook.
Going into that last match Barty didn’t have the best of records against Svitolina. Nevertheless, she looked really confident and executed her game plan well. To get this far she’s survived three-setters against Kucova, Azarenka, and Sabalenka. Last but not least, the Australian won three of her five most recent finals, and she’s clearly in good physical shape.
While Barty was having a comfortable time of it, the next match on court went an energy sapping 2:46. That was between Bianca Andreescu and Maria Sakkari, and we have to say the Canadian got away with it. With all due respect, Sakkari was serving for the set but lost that game to zero. Having won an earlier tie-breaker, Andreescu showed her mental strength to come through the final set 7/4.
The 20 year old went the distance in her last four matches. No doubt she will be happy to get the extra day off before the final. The US open winner hasn’t been at her best this week, but she’s super game and her type of game could pay dividends against a more predictable Barty.
Andreescu won her last four finals, she’s worth a bet to make it five!
